Hamakua
About the Hamakua Coast
The stunning north coast of our Island has been carved into spectacular beauty by the power of the trade winds that run across the vast open reaches of the North Pacific, gathering moisture into towering clouds that seem to march in ceaseless ranks, slamming into the gigantic sea cliffs of Hamakua. They rise up on the shoulders of our soaringĀ mountains, releasing their great cargoes of rain into the verdant forests, carving the volcanic rock with thousands of water falls and deep twisting valleys. This is a coast of broad, sweeping fields and pasturelands punctuated by beautiful stands of hardwood forest and miniature gulches filled with wild bananas and guava. Many who come to Hamakua for the first time are overwhelmed with a deep sense of finally arriving home.
